Francois Cazin Cheverny 2017
A blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Chardonnay, the Cazin Cheverny features bright citrus aromas and complex mineral notes. The palate is deep, surprisingly full-bodied, with great acid and remarkable length.
Puech Haut Prestige 2015
93 Points Wine Advocate
The 2015 Saint Drezery Prestige is a ripe, sexy beauty that gives up full-bodied notes of black cherries, melted licorice and roasted herbs. Like all the wines from this estate, it has lots of richness and texture, yet stays balanced, lively and pure. It's a year in and year out value that's a no-brainer purchase. It will drink beautifully over the coming 4-5 years (possibly even longer).
Stephane Usseglio Ventoux 2016
Over the last few years, Raymond’s son Stephan has taken over his domaine, and it is he whom we have to thank for this delicious little Ventoux from the region right next door to Chateauneuf. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, all grown biodynamically, the wine has aromas and flavors of ripe red cherries with a little smoke and licorice, and the wine has a perfect balance of weight, acidity, alcohol, sweetness, and juicy fruit.
Baudry-Dutour Amaranthe Chinon 2017
In partnership with Jean-Martin Dutour, Christophe Baudry (nephew of Chinon eminence Bernard) has formed a mini-empire in Chinon. This bottling is a model of new-era Loire Valley Chinon (Cabernet Franc), devoid of ‘greenness’ and rivaling cru Beaujolais in quality-for-price. The palate shows creamy black cherry fruit and violets. Try with roasted pork or a mushroom casserole.
Ground Effect Pinot Noir 2016
Central Coast, California
In the glass the color is delicate ruby with light pink edges. Diving in to the wine, the aromas are -like cracking into a fresh pomegranate while walking through a rose garden. Vibrant Red fruit hits the palate with a flash while dark cherry flavors search out each end of the palate. Satin tannins with a touch of vanilla are matched with the cinnamon spice and that wisp of acidity that craves another sip.
Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2016
91 Points Wine Spectator
Pure, fruity and elegant, featuring cherry, plum, currant and iron aromas and flavors. Well-structured, yet balanced, with a lingering, fresh aftertaste of fruit, iron and leather notes.
Arrowood Knights Valley Cabernet 2014
Sonoma County, California
92 Points Wine Advocate
Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 4% Malbec, is scented of red currants, blackberries and wild blueberries with touches of olives and underbrush. Medium-bodied, tightly wound and packed with tense red and black fruits, it has a fine-grained texture and savory finish.
Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet 2016
Napa Valley, California
91 Points Jeb Dunnuck
The value-priced 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is well worth seeking out and is ideal for readers who feel all the wines in Napa are over-priced. This sexy, rounded effort sports a deep, inky color as well as upfront cassis and jammy blackberry fruits, medium body, sweet tannins, and terrific overall balance. This is a gorgeous wine!
Cusumano Nero D'Avola 2017
91 Points James Suckling
There’s some bitter chocolate, along with lots of black fruit and a hint of sweetness to balance. The generous, supple tannins make this so easy to enjoy. Long, ripe but harmonious finish.
AND FROM THE CELLAR!
Cune Rioja Reserva 2012
93 Points Wine Spectator
This sleek red offers cherry, licorice, mineral and smoke flavors that mingle harmoniously over light, firm tannins, driven by lively acidity through the savory finish. Discreet, but shows depth and intensity. Drink now through 2025.
Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2012
95+ Points Wine Advocate
Il Poggione is a Brunello superstar and a vintage like this reveals every reason why that affirmation is true. From the second the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino pours into the glass, you know you are in for something special. The wine is darkly saturated and rich in appearance. The quality of fruit is vibrant and rich. This is a healthy, generous and exuberant Brunello with dark density and succulent fruit flavors that are followed by integrated spice and tobacco. The balance is impressive and one thing you get here is fresh acidity. This is not to be underestimated, because the acidity quota in the 2012 vintage across the appellation is not as high or evident as usual. This is one of the year's best Brunellos.
Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2013 1.5L
96 Points Wine Advocate
The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino lives up to the impeccable reputation garnered by this estate over the years. This is a profound and beautifully rendered Sangiovese that delivers bold and luscious fruit quality with black cherry and spicy plum at the start. The bouquet follows through with mild oak notes of smoke, tar and toasted nut. There is another aromatic component that includes crushed stone and dried herb or mint. This Brunello shows elegant evolution in the glass and promises a very long aging future ahead.
