Neal Rosenthal Wine Merchant at Aloft Hotel

In the late 1970s, Neal Rosenthal set out to learn everything he could about wine. Today, he is one of the most successful importers of traditionally made wines produced by small family-owned estates in France and Italy. Rosenthal has immersed himself in the culture of Old World wine production, working closely with his growers for two and sometimes three generations. He is one of the leading exponents of the concept of "terroir"—the notion that a particular vineyard site imparts distinct qualities of bouquet, flavor, and color to a wine. Join us as the debonair John Paine, Regional Manager for Rosenthal since 2006, leads us through an epic journey of authentic French and Italian wines. This will be a night to remember!

Chappellet Wine Tasting at Aloft

For more than four decades, the Chappellet family has been crafting world-class wines from fruit cultivated on the steep, rocky slopes of Napa Valley's renowned Pritchard Hill. As one of the first wineries to pioneer high-elevation hillside planting, and one of the few remaining great family-owned Napa Valley wineries, Chappellet Vineyard and Winery has influenced generations of vintners. Throughout its history, Chappellet has also established an enduring legacy as one of California's most acclaimed producers of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Since being founded by Donn and Molly in 1967, Chappellet has earned acclaim championing the robust power and complexity of wines crafted from mountain grapes. At the same time, Chappellet has helped to establish Pritchard Hill as one of California’s most revered winegrowing sites. To honor the mountain's rich, expressive character, the winemaking team focuses on creating extraordinary, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignons that embody the intensity and finesse of fruit from Pritchard Hill.

Grgich Hills Judgment at Paris Tasting

On May 24, 1976, arguably the most important wine tasting in the history of the American Wine Industry was conducted at the Intercontinental Hotel in Paris.  That afternoon, some of the most prestigious winemakers and restauranteurs in France tasted six California Chardonnays and four of the best White Burgundies as well as six California Cabernet Sauvignons against four classified Chateaux from Bordeaux.
The results rocked the wine world!  Both categories were won by entrants from California.  Chateau MontelenaChardonnay, 1973 and Stag’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon, 1973.
This year marks the fortieth anniversary of this historic event.  We have a very special event planned at 1010 Washington Wine & Spirits!
The winemaker at Chateau Montelena who made the winning Chardonnay was Mijlienko “Mike” Grgich.  Soon after the Judgment at Paris, Grgich partnered up with Austin Hills (of the Hills Brothers Coffee family) to open Grgich Hills Winery.
We are very excited to announce that on May 25, 2016 we will be hosting Sean Barrett, Midwest Sales Manager for Grgich Hills for a tasting of their equally famous, outstanding wines at the Aloft Hotel.  The tasting will be from 6:30 PM til 8:30 PM.
We think that this is going to be a VERY special tasting and we hope that you will join us.  Please RSVP to info@wws.com or call us at (612)339-4040.  The cost of the tasting will be $25.00, but, as always, the cost of the ticket will be refunded against any purchase.
